ABOUT THE AR-RANIRI IAIN

A.   STRATEGIC POSITION OF THE AR-RANIRI IAIN

1.    Network for developing moderate Islamic thought

The Ar-Raniri IAIN has established linkages with other IAINs and research centers in Indonesia, which are committed to develop inclusive and moderate religious thoughts. This role is to be preserved and strengthened, especially to reconstruct the future life of Aceh’s civilians.

2.    Agent for the development of Aceh’s civilians subsequent to the disaster

The Ar-Raniri IAIN possesses well-trained human resources, especially in religious and social fields. This potency should be encouraged simultaneously, in order that the Ar-Raniri IAIN will be able to determine and participate in the development of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.

The condition of the Ar-Raniri IAIN of Banda Aceh after the disaster has not been recorded yet in detail. However, media report that the damages in the Ar-Raniri IAIN are more serious than those in Syiahkuala University. It is estimated that 80 percent of it’s buildings are seriously damaged and muddy, resulting in the termination of administrational and instructional activities. A number of buildings were reported destroyed into ruins. According to interim information, around 37 lecturers and administration staff, and 10 percent of students were reported killed. It has been also estimated that 70 percent of the lecturers and administration staff have lost their families and prosperities, including houses.
